Marsala

Ubicazione

Marsala is a land of wine.

This said, we might already have describe this territory, in which 80% of the entire agricultural area are vineyards. Western Sicily is the area with the highest production of all Italy and Europe.

The famous Marsala is produced here, which is the DOC recognized for this area. But it would be unfair to reduce the panorama only to “the Englishmen’s wine“. In fact, it is hard to find such a varied production of grapes and wines in other areas, both in Italy and other countries.

Among the native grapes the most important ones are the Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia and Pignatello. Decades ago, these have been joined by other varietals, such as Grecanico, Inzolia, Trebbiano, Nero d’Avola, Frappato.
